ScreenGym — Terms & Privacy

Effective date: 1 November 2026

Where your data lives

Everything ScreenGym shows you is stored in a local database on this device only. There is no server, no account required, and ScreenGym never sends your data anywhere, including to us. The one exception is the optional Google backup described below — off unless you turn it on yourself.

Backup and restore (optional, off by default)

In Account, you can turn on “Back up history to Google.” If you do, only your local usage-history database is copied to your own Google account's backup storage — nothing else about the app or your phone. This lets your history come back automatically if you reinstall ScreenGym on a new phone signed into that same Google account. It's entirely optional and off unless you explicitly turn it on, and once it leaves this device it's governed by Google's own backup security terms, not this document. Your Premium status, if any, is separate from this toggle — that's tied to your Google account through Play Billing and follows you regardless of whether backup is on.

What's collected, and how

ScreenGym reads two things Android itself already tracks at the operating-system level: which apps you open and for how long (via Android's Usage Access permission), and how much mobile and Wi-Fi data each app uses (via Android's network usage statistics). ScreenGym does not read message content, browsing history, photos, contacts, or anything typed on the screen — only the fact that an app was open, when, and how much data it used.

What's derived from that data

From those two raw signals, ScreenGym computes daily summaries — active/passive time, unlock counts, category breakdowns, data used per hour of screen time, and a daily Persona and Screen Intensity score — and stores those summaries so you can see trends over time. All of this computation happens on your device; none of it is sent elsewhere.

How long it's kept

On install, ScreenGym can only see up to the last 30 days of history — a limit set by how long Android's own usage log retains data, not by ScreenGym. ScreenGym aligns all data so that every part of the app reflects the same history window, rather than some sections covering more days than others.

From there, ScreenGym keeps building and storing your history indefinitely — nothing is ever automatically deleted, regardless of your plan. History can grow to span multiple years of use.

What differs by plan is what you can see, not what's kept. Free accounts can view up to the most recent 7 days of history. Premium accounts can view the full history that's been collected, however far back it goes. If you upgrade from free to Premium, nothing is lost in the meantime — you'll immediately be able to see everything ScreenGym already collected while you were on the free plan, not just data going forward.

Required permission

ScreenGym needs Android's “Usage Access” permission to function at all — without it, the app can't see which apps you've used. This is a standard Android permission, granted manually in Settings, and can be revoked at any time (ScreenGym will simply stop collecting new data until it's granted again).

If you uninstall

Uninstalling ScreenGym deletes its local database along with it, on this device. If you never turned on Google backup, there's nothing left anywhere after that. If you did turn it on, a copy remains in your Google account's backup storage until it's naturally replaced by a newer backup or you clear it yourself through your Google account's own backup settings — ScreenGym has no way to reach back and delete that copy once it exists.

Accuracy of data and estimates

ScreenGym measures and estimates your screen time, network usage, and related figures using Android's own built-in usage and network APIs. These are estimates, not guaranteed-accurate measurements — Android's own reporting can lag, differ slightly between screens, or be affected by how the operating system batches and reports usage data. For example, screen time counts the time an app stays open on your phone screen, even if you are not actively looking at it — such as when casting from an app that keeps the screen on. It does not count activity while an app is not on the screen, such as playing audio over Bluetooth with the app in the background. Persona, Screen Intensity, data used per hour of screen time, and Weekly Analysis are all derived from these same underlying estimates and carry the same limitations. Screen time and the per-app times are measured differently, so they may not add up exactly: screen time counts each moment of real clock time once, while the time for each app counts every moment that app was on screen. When two apps are visible at the same time (for example in split-screen), each gets credit, so the per-app times can add up to slightly more than screen time. Small differences between the two are normal. Total data usage covers all data used by your phone, including background and system activity (updates, backups, sync) and data shared with other devices through your phone's hotspot (tethering). When you cast to a TV (for example with Chromecast) over Wi-Fi, the TV usually streams directly from the internet, so that traffic does not pass through your phone and is not counted. “Data per hour of screen time” counts only the data of the apps you opened that day, including what those apps downloaded in the background; system updates, backups and apps you did not open are left out of that figure, but are included in your total data. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ScreenGym and its developer are not liable for any decision made, or any loss or inconvenience arising, from inaccuracies, delays, or discrepancies in this data.

Notifications

ScreenGym's notifications — goal alerts and the weekly analysis reminder — depend on Android's own background-processing and notification systems, which can delay, batch, or suppress notifications depending on your device's battery settings, Do Not Disturb mode, notification permissions, or manufacturer-specific power management. ScreenGym does not guarantee that any notification will arrive at a specific time, or at all. Notifications are informational only and must not be relied on for time-sensitive or safety-related purposes.

Persona, Screen Intensity, and fitness-related terminology are not medical advice

The Persona and Screen Intensity features, and the fitness-themed language used throughout the app, are simplified, self-reflection tools based on rule-based thresholds applied to your own usage data — not a clinical, psychological, or medical assessment of behavioral addiction, fitness, or any other condition. They're provided for informational and entertainment purposes only. ScreenGym is not a healthcare product and should not be used as a substitute for professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment. If you have concerns about your relationship with your phone or technology use, please consult a qualified professional.

App categories are informal, not evaluative

ScreenGym groups apps into a few informal categories — for example social & scrolling, games, calls & messaging, music, video & reading, and tools such as browsing, AI or finance. The categories are used behind the scenes to calculate Screen Intensity and Persona, and are shown as a small label next to each app in Workouts. They describe how an app is typically used — not a judgment of the app, its publisher, or the time you spend in it. The grouping is a simplification and will not fit every app or every person's use of it perfectly.

Premium features and payment

Premium is offered as a monthly or a yearly subscription, priced in your local currency as shown by Google Play. New subscribers may be offered a free trial on the yearly plan; if you don't cancel before the trial ends, the subscription converts to paid and renews automatically each year until cancelled. You can cancel at any time in Google Play. Premium subscriptions are purchased and managed entirely through Google Play Billing, and are governed by Google Play's own terms, pricing, refund, and cancellation policies — not by ScreenGym directly. ScreenGym does not process or store your payment information. Premium features may be changed, added, or removed over time; while we aim to keep Premium features available and working as described, ScreenGym does not guarantee uninterrupted access, and to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, is not liable for temporary unavailability of Premium features.

No warranty; limitation of liability

ScreenGym is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to accuracy, reliability, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ScreenGym's developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. Nothing in this document limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection law that cannot be waived by agreement.

Who provides this app

ScreenGym is developed and provided by Maria Hristova Hristova, an individual developer based in Bulgaria, publishing as Ainalitic. Ainalitic is not a registered company.
